Michael Garfield studied ecology and evolutionary biology as an undergraduate, including seven summers of paleoecological fieldwork for the Wyoming Dinosaur Society, as well as paleontological reconstructions for the University of Kansas Natural History Museum,Tate Museum at Casper College, and Petrified Forest National Park. After 13 years as a scientific illustrator and itinerant transmedia artist, he joined SFI in 2018 to translate complexity science for social media and host/produce its official podcast.
Michael’s personal interests include the co-evolution of humans and technology, the role of mind and communication in the self-organization of the biosphere, and major evolutionary transitions (like the one we seem to be in now).
